As of the time of writing this, I just came off of a weekend where I saw two MCs fail in their duties on back to back shows. We offered our services as MC, however both these couples chose to have a family member take this very important role. Whilst this is a nice idea, but most people don’t realise all the responsibility that comes with being a wedding MC. It is not as simple as getting up and making a few announcements. One of the weddings saw the MC not taking control of the time schedule and by the end of the night there was only enough time left for two songs to be played! The bridal dance, and the last song of the night. On the other, the MC made decisions based on what he thought the bride would like without bothering to check with her. Some of these decisions were wrong!

An MC (master of ceremonies) is responsible for –
- Introductions of the bridal party
- Performing the house keeping rules
- Announcing when meals are served
- Introducing each speaker at speech time
- Announcing the cake cutting
- Introducing the couple for their bridal dance
- Ensuring everything is running on time
Sadly, too many couples decide to have someone who they think is funny when they are drunk! Sad but true. The amount of times I have seen couples choose someone based on how “funny” they think they are. Let’s get something straight … this is a wedding, not a stand-up comedy show. Of course it is great if the MC can interject some light-heartedness and humour into the night as it is a celebration, but many MCs think this is their time to get that microphone and become the star of the night. NO! Never. The only stars of the show are the bridal couple. Nobody comes before the bridal couple.
By allowing us to perform your MC duties, you know it will be done correctly. We will certainly be light-hearted and keep the atmosphere full of fun, but we do not use this opportunity to shine. We perform the necessary duties in a professional manner and work behind the scenes with the venue staff to ensure everything is running on time. Choosing a member of your family or a friend to be the MC means that this person will be working all night. Perhaps you should let us do the MC duties and give your poor friend or relative the night off and allow them to enjoy the wedding with the guests?
